Bishop Hansen, C.Ss.R.

The Most Rev. Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R. (51) was ordained a bishop and installed as the seventh Bishop of Mackenzie-Fort Smith, Canada on March 16th. His coat of arms was designed by himself.

Hmmm. Looks like a head-on picture of “Thomas the Train” with a runny nose. Another example of why coats of arms should be created by those versed in heraldic art. It would be nice if you could include blazons as well as pictorial renditions in your blog. This one would be particularly interesting.

The Diocese only provides an explanation, not a blazon. I’d be interested to see how someone would blazon this as well but since the bishop designed his own arms I doubt anyone has.

I can’t remember having seen Christmas tree ornaments in a Coat of Arms before. If he wanted to emphasise his Danish ancestry, he would have done well to turn to Ronny Andersen for help.
